I have never been one to read fashion magazines, but someone sent me this really interesting article on the growing influence of female graff artists. I thought you’d all like to check out. Thanks MRB!

MVExposé: DJ Royale

Affiliated with Black Rap, Sole Purpose, and Spankdelicious Saturdays, DJ Royale, born Roy Andrew Padilla, is a dedicated hip-hop turntablist from Toronto. He discovered his passion for hip-hop at a young age listening to radio shows such as Mastermind Street Jam 107.9 and the Powermove show 88.1. His influences revolved around New York mixtapes from Doo Wop, Ron G, DJ Clue, Juice and Funkmaster Flex. At thirteen, he practiced all summer with his Gemini start kit and by high school he was spinning at various house parties for friends.

“I find my motivation spurs from other well-respected DJs, new and old. I’m never satisfied and that keeps me going.”

Royale’s dedication to the underground hip-hop scene has defined his many accomplishments including past radio appearances on Mixtape Massacre, Backroad Radio, the Soundcheck Show, Sound Junction and Project Bounce. He has an extensive discography with almost a dozen mixtapes released, the latest, Crash the Party pt. 2 released earlier this year.

You can catch Royale at his residency at the Down One Lounge in Toronto, ON with SweetnLo, BacknForth and Big Philly every Saturdays.

For more information and updates on DJ Royale for mixed CDs, online mixes, and future gigs, check out http://www.myspace.com/deejayroyale.

Be sure to stay tuned for next Friday as bgirl Mars from Toronto, ON will be featured.
